Every lane has one
Someone in your lane needs this test.
Make sure it’s not you.
The unofficial swimming lane etiquette test
Parked at the wall. Hogging the middle. Sprinting the second you try to pass. You know exactly who we mean. Pass the test and get a certificate that proves it isn’t you.
No sign-in. About ten minutes. Certificate when you pass.
The usual suspects
You’ve met them. You may have been them.
The Overconfident One
Picked the fast lane because they’re “a fast swimmer.” You’ve lapped them four times.
The Ambusher
Drops in right as you reach the wall. You find out mid-turn.
The Lane Hog
Swims straight down the middle, both ways. Everyone else has to go round.
The Racer
Ignores you for ten lengths, then sprints the second you try to pass.
The Wall Chatters
Two friends catching up right where you need to turn. Twenty minutes and counting.
The Triathlete
Has a training plan and won’t change a thing, however crowded the lane gets.
Every one of them thinks they’re fine. The test disagrees. Prove it’s not you
